NASP LEGISLATIVE ALERT: HELP ENSURE THAT COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES ARE INCLUDED IN ESEA REAUTHORIZATION Congress is currently considering legislation to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA); in fact, the U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to debate and vote on education legislation later in July. NASP needs you to ask your elected officials to make comprehensive school psychological services a high priority in the reauthorization of ESEA. Students who do not feel safe and supported at school cannot learn to their fullest potential. Strong curricula, excellent teachers, and a rigorous accountability system are not enough. Students come to school each day struggling with barriers to learning that include academic difficulties, community and family issues like poverty and homelessness, school climate and safety concerns, and physical and mental health challenges. Students who are struggling with these barriers have poor outcomes and contribute to the drop-out crisis in America. We must make it a high priority for learning environments to include school-wide programs and services that prevent negative behavior, comprehensive and coordinated learning supports, student behavioral and mental health services, positive school climates that promote family engagement, and data-driven decision making. If you believe that it is critical that comprehensive school psychological services be included in the reauthorization of ESEA, you can be part of the solution that will ensures this happensundefinedthe 1-Minute Solution!
