NATIONAL ADDRESS SYSTEM GETS TRIMBLE GPS DEVICES In recent days, the on the ground government agencies received a donation from stakeholders of the Trimble GPS devices, to be used in the national street naming and house numbering project. This valued donation was facilitated through the good efforts of the partners of the project the Organization of American States (OAS) and Antigua and Barbuda’s Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Deborah-Mae Lovell. OAS representative Jean Ricot Dormeus, says they are committed to working with steak-holders and local agencies until the end. Senator Parker says, The government and people of Antigua and Barbuda are pleased that this project has such joint partnership and collaboration. The OAS has been a partner from the beginning and we continue to thank them. We are equally grateful that Trimble has donated these devices to us”. The Trimble Juno 5 Series Handheld Computers equipped with Global Navigation Satellite System(GNSS) competencies which, are most suitable for asset management and data maintenance projects, the Juno 5 with such great potential is integrated into a convenient, rugged package using Windows® Embedded Handheld operating system, also Office Applications, equipped with Camera, and Cellular connectivity all in the palm of our technicians. Chief Lands Surveyor, Vernon Bird says “ This device will have uploaded the nations’ present mapping data which will allow the technicians on the field to precisely locate and measure distances from main streets and homes to arrive at the accurate house numbers”. The presentation of the appreciated tools was done by Mr. Jean Dormeus from OAS to Sen. Malaka Parker in the presence of senior personnel of the technical team Mr. Vernon Bird-Chief Surveyor, Mr. Fredrick Southwell-Chief Town and Country Planner, Wilbert Burke from the Development Control Authority (DCA) and Mr. Curtis Adams, supervisor in the Ministry of Works. “The Benefit of the Juno 5 will be huge knowing the national maps use within our system are GIS base which links us in with GNSS. These devices would aid the field officers to accurately input and tabulate on the field coordinates of landmarks and properties to contribute to the national address system”. Says Chief Town and Country Planner, Fredrick Southwell. The nation feels like a favored child with the support and assistance it has received from nations such as Colombia and Mexico who are closely working with the local agencies to plot and complete the national address system. The next phase is to have in-depth training given to approximately 10-12 field officers and quality control supervisors to validate the integrity of the data that will establish the National Address System soon to be completed.
