NATIONAL TEAMS URGED TO REPEAT STAR ACTS Source: The National, Wednesday April 23rd, 2014 THE national mens and womens softball teams have been challenged to repeat the 1991 winning performance in next year’s 2015 Pacific Games. Patron of the Papua New Guinea Softball Federation and senior statesman Sir Rabbie Namaliu issued the hard yarn during the opening ceremony of the 39th national softball championships at the weekend. “My challenge to you softballers – and especially those that make the final teams – to repeat the 1991 winning performance where our men’s and women’s teams won gold,” Sir Rabbie said. Sir Rabbie recalled the last Pacific Games adding it was a true feeling that time and called for a repeat. “We know and I know we can do it,” Sir Rabbie said. Sir Rabbie said he expected the two teams to win gold medals. “The whole country is on your shoulders – prove you are worthy,” said Sir Rabbie. The national train-on squad was named on Monday night with the players going into their first day of a four day intensive training camp. The camp is being facilitated by national coaching director Joe Lumaris and assisted by Kenneth Selu and son Jerrymah Selu who flew in from Australia. Meanwhile president Chris Bais thanked the Office of the Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchenko for the K50, 000 through its Gold for Gold Sports Enhancement Program.
