NATURAL WAYS TO REDUCE MILD ACNE By Dr Davin Lim First of all not all forms of acne will respond to natural treatments. Hormonal acne, jawline acne and cystic acne will usually need medical therapy. If you suffer from the occasional outbreak, here are my simple tips (proven scientifically) to help reduce mild acne- 1. Diet, Diet, Diet It is well known that high sugar foods including chocolate can worsen acne. My hint- if you are a chocoholic like me- dark chocolate is the best substitute. Eat less simple sugars, and more protein. Avoid dairy products, too much milk can induce acne- proven in many scientific papers. 2. Supplement your diet with zinc. Zinc Sulfate can be obtained in many health food stores. Take twice a day. Vitamin A supplements can also help mild acne. 3. De-stress - easier said than done. Stress DOES make acne worse, and can induce picking, a condition known as acne excoriae. 4. Get some sun light in moderation. Notice how your acne improves after a beach holiday? This is because UV light can destroy bacteria namely blue and red light. You can also obtain this via our acne phototherapy program- ideally suited for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. 5. Fruit acids or AHAs are an excellent natural method of removing clogged pores, blackhead and white heads. AHA peels can be done at home, however if you really want to shift stubborn acne, our clinical strength AHA regime conduced at Westside Dermatology will do the job. Peels start at only $98. Visit the acnespecialists.au website for more details.Natural remedies may not work for everyone, especially women with hormonal acne. My suggestion- if you have mild acne, give natural remedies a try. I know my acne flares with diet and a simple change can make all the difference.
