NBA Hall of Fame member Charles Barkley supported Obama, and is a registered independent. He often makes controversial remarks, but there are times he is correct. He says The biggest misconception is that the Democratic Party does so much to help poor people. In a whole lot of cases, the Democratic Party keeps people poor. He went on to say that nearly every person in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama is a Democrat, and their lives have not improved. He opposes gun control and says If I was in charge, there wouldt be a death row, there would be a death week. He disagreed with many of his former teammates and said the Zimmerman verdict was correct. A decade ago he said I aint no role model. . . I admire parents who go to work everyday so their kids can have a roof over their head. Those are your real role models. Not me. I just play basketball. They are the real heroes. Not me.
