NCA Statement on Filing of Presidential Candidate Nominations October 6, 2013 – Kabul On Sunday 6th of October, the time period for the registration of Presidential Candidates for Afghanistan’s upcoming elections concluded, as national and political personalities have filed their nominations and joint tickets for the upcoming 2014 Afghan Presidential elections. The presence and participation of our nation’s political personalities in the upcoming elections, and the people’s deep interest in the process, will result in the strengthening of democratic processes in our country as well as the empowerment of our people to choose their own political destiny. The National Coalition of Afghanistan welcomes the participation of our country’s political personalities in this vital electoral process, and underscores the important role that the people will play in the elections, leading to a historic peaceful political transition. The NCA encourages the people of Afghanistan to obtain their voting cards and actively participate in the elections, and to vote for the team that they trust most. The NCA also requests from all candidates and electoral teams to follow democratic values during the campaigns, keeping in mind Afghanistan’s national unity and prosperity. The NCA is hopeful that the Government of Afghanistan and the relevant electoral institutions will pave the way for holding of inclusive, free and fair elections, in which all respective candidates can participate in a competitive and transparent environment. In this regard, the NCA emphasizes the importance of necessary measures to be taken to prevent any activities which could jeopardize the legitimacy and credibility of the process. The National Coalition of Afghanistan is of the strong belief that a credible electoral process is vital for the institutionalization of democracy, security and stability in our country. In this critical juncture in our country’s history, we all, the Afghan government, political forces and people of Afghanistan, have a common responsibility in ensuring the realization of this noble and critical objective. The NCA wishes for a successful election, in which the results will further strengthen our heroic nation’s unity, stability and prosperity.
