NDEA Clinch NISA Super Cup The 2014 inter-departmental Sports association (NISA) football tournament kicked off on Saturday 15th March 2014, with the usual Super Cup final at Serrekunda West Mini Stadium. The 12th edition Super Cup was clinched by the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) after their 5-4 penalty kicks triumph over Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) after goalless in the full 90 minutes of play. Coming to Saturday Super Cup Final, NDEA has never won the championship but managed to play two finals, in 2009 against Immigration and 2013 against GAF. But GAF they won the trophy three times, first against GCAA in 2005, 2011 against Nawec and in 2013 against NDEA. It was a very entertaining game as both teams’ demonstrated maturity and fair play. Despite low turnout by the companies and institutions it was a good start for the executive of NISA. In declaring this year’s NISA competitions open, the Secretary General of the Association Sheikou B Jarju Said , “It is indeed a great pleasure that I stand before you in celebrating once again the opening of the 12th Edition of the NISA Championship for the year 2014 between the current cup holders. That is, The Gambia Armed Forces and the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA). This two giants will today battle for this year’s Super Cup as a prelude to the opening championship of NISA 2014, and I have no doubt that the best team will surely win”. He Went on to say that he must confess that the presence of invited guests and companies is very colorful and of great significance. Their commitment to sport development in The Gambia our homeland cannot be challenged in any way. He therefore encouraged them to keep up the momentum through which NISA will be able to achieve its live long dream of bringing workers together in such sporting event. “ On account of the above, I would like to welcome all the participating companies to partake in this year’s championship with the usual spirit of great sportsmanship and fair play” he said. Mr Jarjue used the opportunity to thank both The CDS and The Director General of NDEA for helping inject so much in these two teams. “I also ask for your kind permission to exclusively thank the Commander-in- Chief of The Gambia Armed Forces His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alh. Dr. Yaya A.J.J. Jammeh, President of the Republic of The Gambia, for selflessly uplifting the spirit of sports in The Gambia”. According to the Secretary General it is his wish to kindly inform his Excellency that NISA as a body will always work hand-in-glove with The Government of The Gambia through its ministry of sports to develop and decentralize workers sports across the country. “The aim is to organize annual sporting events thereby bringing all Gambian workers into one sporting family. The Objective of which is to foster personal interaction, discipline, tolerance and mutual understanding in the working life of all members of the association” he pointed out.
