NEAR ZERO WIND CHILLS THURSDAY AM! Its coming and theres no avoiding it :) The cold comes in two waves. If youve been outside today, you know the first wave has arrived. Afternoon high temperatures will be in the 50s...more than 20º cooler than it was yesterday afternoon. The second wave arrives Wednesday night and is much more intense. By Thursday morning, actual temperatures will be in the teens and low 20s. Factor in the wind, and it will feel even colder with wind chills between 0º and 10º! Why do you feel colder when the wind blows? Body heat generates a thin layer of heat that surrounds our body. When the wind blows, that heat is blown away from the skin leaving us exposed directly to the cold air making you feel colder. The wind chill factor is the same effect that causes you to blow on hot soup to cool it down. The movement of the air increases the soups loss of heat by convection, so the soup cools down faster.
