NEARING MIDNIGHT: Jun 24, 2013 The End Times Are Sneaking Up On Us The Bible warns that someday a period of unparalleled calamity will sweep over this planet. During the time commonly known as the Tribulation, the loss of life will be so great that nearly all the inhabitants of the earth will perish. With the Word of God making such a dire prediction, you would think that Christians would be extremely sensitive to any events that seem to match prophecy. According to Barna Research, 70 percent of the U.S. population believes that someday Jesus is coming back to earth. The same number of people are familiar with terms like: Tribulation, Antichrist, 666, or Armageddon and they realize their negative connotations. The understanding of prophecy may be very broad, but it is also extremely shallow. Everyone knows that 666, is a demonic number linked to the devil, but few people could tell you why it has a sinister association with evil. Despite the fact that we are drowning in a sea of end-time signs, awareness has been dropping off sharply in recent years. This is actually yet another indicator of the end because Jesus talked more about the lack of awareness than any other sign. The Lord was so insistent about getting this point across that He repeated himself four times in the book of Matthew: “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only” (Mathew 24:36). “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come” (Matthew 24:42). “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:44). “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 25:13). The one thing that helps me the most in being a last days watchman is keeping a record of how people’s reactions to world events has changed over the years. Back the 1980s, there was a continuous buzz over who might be the Antichrist. At any given time, there might be a dozen books in print that would point to a certain political leaders as being the Beast, of Revelation. Today, this type of speculation has almost completely evaporated. I have to laugh when I think of how the writers of three decades ago would react to the deeds of President Barack Obama. If you could transport him back to the 80s, it would be like feeding time for a pack of hungry lions. I’m equally amazed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has largely escaped being assessed for how he would fit the roll of Gog. Putin has worked tirelessly to build alliances with Arab states that will make possible the Ezekiel 38 and 39 invasion of Northern Israel. When I lived in Bellevue, Nebraska, there was a Christian bookstore I visited at least once a month to see the latest books on prophecy. Every time there was a major world event, it was guaranteed that a book on the subject would reach the market in a few months. You fast-forward two decades to today, and the field of prophecy books is a desert. The pace of new prophecy books is now measured in how many are published in a year. One of the problems with prophetic awareness is that we have become too familiar with events that are related to the end-times. Back in the 1970s there was a huge amount of interest in all things related to the European Union. Back then, it was called the European Economic Community (EEC), and every time a new member was added there was great deal of excitement in prophecy. In 2013, the activity of this organization is oblivious to Bible scholars. Another end-time sign is that people have become dangerously cozy with the surveillance technology. When in the 90s, the city of London installed cameras on every major corner to help prevent crime, we in America were shocked by this Orwellian move. After the 911, terrorist attack, opposition to big Brother cameras faded, and they have become all pervasive. The massive disparity between the frequency of birth pangs and the general sense of apathy is what I have long-called the granddaddy of end-time indicators. I can trace consistent prophetic interest all the way back to the 1840s Miller movement. It doesn’t make sense for prophecy watchers to loose their focus, at the most critical moment in history. If we are drawing very near to the Rapture, it’s vital for us to keep doing that which will be the most productive for the kingdom of God. We stay productive at Rapture Ready because we don’t want to be the foolish servant that Jesus warned us about. “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Matthew 24:45-51). --Todd -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Armageddon’s Vortex Recorded history’s most powerfully destructive tornado tore through the Oklahoma City area May 31, 2013. The EF3, EF4 and sometimes EF5 twister was as large as two and a half miles wide during some points of its being on the ground for forty-solid-minutes. A number of people died in the vicious, multiple vortexes that raged within and around the central tornado, including three experienced storm chaser/researchers from Colorado. The monster literally vacuumed even patches of earth and concrete roadways as it raged across the Oklahoma landscape toward the same places that were hit a week or two earlier by another massive tornado. Thirty square miles looked, one Oklahoma State governmental official said, “Like a gigantic lawn mower had cut its swath through the hundreds of homes that were completely sucked from their foundations.” While this commentary isn’t about how the severity of storms and other natural disasters are causing records to fall in these closing days of mankind’s rush toward the consummation of the age, these phenomena occurring, are, in my estimation, certainly an integral part of the matters I wish to present. Every signal on the scene today, whether considering geopolitics, socio-economics, religion or natural upheaval, is caught up in an unstoppable, titanic end-times storm. At the center of the vortex is the eye around which all other things swirl─the nation Israel. The incessant call for peace─manifest in the Roadmap to Peace process has been for a time obscured by the dark cloud of global distress and perplexities, but now is back on the radar of the world’s diplomats, it seems. Israel, of course, is viewed by those diplomats─as the hold-up to peace in the Middle East. It is the region of planet Earth prophesied by the Word of God to be at the center of the great humanity-endangering storm at the very end of the age. Observers of these, goings on, especially those who watch for the unfolding of Bible prophecy should take notice with an increased level of fascination. The Middle East is the region of the world that God─the ultimate Forecaster, says will produce the most destruction in human history. That brewing storm is undeniably upon this generation, as the Bible prophecy student knows, and the tornadic-like winds that it is beginning to produce is vacuuming all of humanity in its every aspect into its massively expanding vortex. All is being drawn toward the valley of Megiddo and the land God promised will be Israel’s forever. The last days storm had fuel added to it its dynamic by a player on the world’s diplomatic scene with whom we are familiar. JERUSALEM, June 18, 2013 (UPI) - “The only choice for Israel to remain a Jewish and democratic nation is to work toward a two-state solution,” former U.S. President Bill Clinton said. Clinton was in Israel to attend celebrations marking the 90th birthday of Israeli President Shimon Peres. You have to cobble together some kind of theory of a two-state solution, and the longer you let this go, just because of sheer demographics, the tougher it’s going to get. I don’t see any alternative to a Palestinian state,” the former U.S. President said in a speech before the Peres Academic Center in Rehovot Monday night. (“Clinton Speaks at Shimon Peres’ 90th birthday Event, Urges 2-State Plan,” UPI) Mr. Clinton, we remember, was at the helm of the U.S. ship of state during the Oslo Accords, in which Yasser Arafat was offered most anything he wanted if he would agree to simply acknowledge Israel’s right to exist and vow to get along. Arafat refused, leaving it all setting on the table─demonstrating to the sane thinking of the world that the rage at the center of the Mid-East storm has nothing to do with rationality or desire to live peaceably with God’s chosen nation. The storm is a supernatural one, and God─the only infallible Forecaster─has told us what its course will be as we proceed deeper into history. “For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land” (Joel 3:1-2). --Terry raptureready/imagehead/nm.jpg
