NEATS NOTES #9 (description of the buildings from r. to l. in the photos) The frame building which is now occupied by the Brown Barber Shop and Rogers Shoe Repair is one of the old landmarks of LP. For many years it was a location of one of the eight or nine saloons of the early days of Long Prairie. Later on, a restaurant and confectionery business was operated by a Mr. Harrison and in 1915, William Moore operated a confectionery cafe in these quarters. A few years later, the building was acquired by Mr. George Odebauer who conducted the barber business in this location up till the time of his death. The brick building which is now occupied by Irish Dempseys place was built by Dr. G.R. Christie. For a number of years, Mr. W.A. Barto conducted a hardware business in this location and in 1907, Mr. Barto sold this business to Lano and Deuhs who moved the hardware store into their own building in the present Lux location. J.F. Orando conducted a saloon business in this location until 1915. After that, the room has been used as a billiard parlor, soft drink establishment and card room. At one time, the Martin Bros. had a three lane bowling alley on the second floor. The corner building which is now occupied by Rexall Drug was built by J. C. Hansmeyer about 1905 or 1906. This location has also housed many various businesses. To mention a few, Maynard and Ostrander, W.G. Anderson, Louis Loggeson, Dixon Bros, the Minnesota Power and Light Company and the present Rexall store. The second floor was the home of the Redman Lodge who were very active and prominent 50 or 60 years ago. The Redman Lodge had a wonderful band and they were decked out in beautiful red and gold uniforms and would appear from time to time as a marching band and also playing concerts.
