NEED EYES ON THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD? It would be kinda cool to spy on people when they think youre not looking. But no such luck for humans! Mother nature, however, made sure that some species do have special markings that look like eyes -- for their own protection. The markings appear as dark or white spots called “eyespots. They are found on butterflies, fish and some animals such as pandas and jungle cats. From behind, these eyes make the animal appear as though it is watching you -- even though its facing the opposite direction. The eyespots are a product of evolution, since they help protect the animal. Even if the animal is asleep, its eyespots are always on guard to trick predators into thinking the animal is wide awake and ready to attack!
