NETTO TO MAKE A COMEBACK TO SHEFFIELD AND DONCASTER Discount supermarket Netto is to return to Sheffield. It opened its first new store in Leeds this week under a new partnership with Sainsbury’s and plans to open another 14 in towns and cities across the country, including Sheffield and Doncaster. Netto left the UK market five years ago when it sold its 198 stores to Asda. For Sainsbury’s, the move allows it to enter the fast-growing discount supermarket sector, worth £10 billion a year. There are 1,300 Netto stores across Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Germany. Sainsbury’s chief executive Mike Coupe said: “We’ll be following this trial closely and supporting Netto’s discounter expertise with Sainsbury’s unique understanding of the UK customer.”
