NEW ADDITION TO SEVKET SABANCI CULTURAL CENTER IN Turgutreis District of Bodrum WILL BE OPENED on August 14, 2013 The first phase of the "Sevket Sabanci Cultural Center" was built in 2011 in the Municipality of Turgutreis on Bodrum Peninsula with generous donations by philanthropist businessman Sevket Sabanci with the core mission to enrich the cultural and artistic life on the peninsula. The initial 1,200 square meter (13,000 sq. ft.) center is a world class venue for contemporary art exhibitions and diverse cultural and artistic events. The center houses several art galleries, a conference hall, meeting rooms, workshops, classrooms and libraries. One section of the center is dedicated to the maritime museum. To date, the center hosted various programs and events such as conferences, panel discussions, artist receptions, media days, book signing events, poetry nights, literary contests, local talent nights and music concerts. In close cooperation with the Directorate of Public Education in Bodrum, the center offers also arts and crafts workshops and hobby courses to the people of Bodrum Peninsula, taught by recognized artists and artisans. As promised by Mr. Sevket Sabanci during the grand opening celebration of the initial building in 2011, the second 2,200 square meter (24,000 sq. ft.) phase of the project is now being completed in August 2013. The new addition to the art complex will be inaugurated on 14 August 2013.
