NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS Speech and Debate Congratulations to the Flaming Penguins who showed very well during last weekend’s competition at Pacific Lutheran University! Overall everyone performed well but some people deserve special recognition. Super Congressional Debate Finalists—Dylan Shaw (2nd place overall), Fatima Firoz, Zach Newton, Isaac Alvarez. Interpretive Reading results— Senay Emmanuel, 1st Place, and Mimi Yousef, 3rd Place, Extemporaneous Speaking—1st Place Emily Readey Science Olympiad On Saturday, 6 Dec, 85 of our Olympians traveled to Bellevue to participate at Interlake’s first ever Science Olympiad Invitational. The earliest invitational of the season, it was an excellent opportunity to push our thinking, our engineering, and our teamwork. Coaches Weeks and McComb are tremendously proud of the teams’ performance and stellar sportsmanship. In a field of 25 teams, our Varsity 2 team placed 4th overall and our Varsity 1 team placed 3rd overall (edged out by consistent Sci Oly powerhouses, Bothell and Camas). Some notable individual finishes include the following: · Air Trajectory: 3rd – Carlos Navarro and Jason Snodgrass; 2nd Brendan Goode and Adam Chase · Astronomy: 3rd – Jarid Bennett and Mitchell Kisner · Bungee Drop: 1st; Wright Stuff: 3rd Meleake Wubbie and Lucky Singh · Chemistry Lab: 1st; Forensics: 2nd Jes Mannard and Chris Hendrickson · Disease Detectives: 3rd – Geneva Rossman and Nakita Brusnighan, 2nd – Navath Nhan and Gabby Rivera · Fossils: 1st – Sophia Cassam and Kieran O’Donnell · Protein Modeling: 2nd Gabby Rivera and Navath Nhan · Mission Possible: 3rd Bryant Nguyen and Monique Sternik; 2nd JV1 Johnston Means and Cole Nofsinger; 1st Manuel Brambila-Diaz and Jacob Sherren · Scrambler: 1st Nathan Simmons and Hunter Whitlock · Compound Machine: 3rd Quinn Edgington and Isaac Shepard · Dynamic Planet: 3rd Timothy Wang and Lauren Smith; 1st Adele Matter and Abigail Quinsay. We extend a special thanks to our families and supporters.
