Season series: The Colorado Avalanche won both games last season against the New Jersey Devils, a 2-1 shootout decision at Pepsi Center and 2-1 overtime victory at Prudential Center. Jaromir Jagr leads New Jerseys active skaters with 21 goals and 48 points in 39 career games against the Avalanche/Quebec Nordiques franchise. The Devils lead the all-time series against the Avalanche/Nordiques 31-27-11, including a 19-10-6 mark in the 35 games played in New Jersey. Avalanche team scope: The Avalanche snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout victory against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. Tanguay scored the decisive goal in the third round of the tiebreaker and goaltender Semyon Varlamov was splendid throughout, earning his third victory of the season by making 30 saves through overtime before stopping Mats Zuccarello and Lee Stempniak in the tiebreaker. Colorado will close out a four-game road trip against Metropolitan Division opponents before returning home to face the Washington Capitals on Nov. 20. Coach Patrick Roy shuffled his line combinations against the Rangers and was very pleased with the results. The Matt Duchene-Ryan OReilly-Tanguay trio combined for two of the three regulation goals. We want to get back in the standings, Tanguay said after the game. We want to get back to being relevant, to being a playoff-contending team and we think we have the ability to do it. Just got to go out and execute. Devils team scope: Center Adam Henrique (lower body) and defenseman Jon Merrill (sore hand/arm) have begun skating on their own but there is no timetable for their return to the lineup. Goaltender Cory Schneider made his 17th straight start on Friday against the Washington Capitals, a 1-0 victory at Verizon Center that ended the Devils four-game road losing streak.
