NEW PACKAGING FOR GLEEVEC IN THE USA https://facebook/GLEEVEC#!/GLEEVEC/photos/a.528973823837698.1073741825.353721494696266/730741303660948/?type=1&theater 400 mg Gleevec tablets will soon be dispensed in blister packs, with each pack each containing 30 individually wrapped tablets. 100 mg Gleevec tablets will continue to be dispensed in bottles. The blister packaging will help patients keep track of how many tablets they have left, and will enhance product freshness. The new 400 mg tablets will be imprinted with the brand name, and will no longer be scored for cutting. Novartis does not recommend cutting the 400 mg tablet in half, as there can be no guarantee that the two halves are equivalent. If patients need more or less than the standard 400 mg dose, their physician should write the order for a combination of 400 mg and 100 mg tablets. The order needs to be on the same script so that there is only one copay. Oncologists should be familiar with how to do this. The blister packs will not be labeled with the days of the week as are some medications because patients on the 800 mg dose will be using two tablets per day. However, the packaging can be labeled at home with a marker pen to keep track of the days of the week.
