NEW RAIL BUDGET CONSISTS.... NEW DELHI: As many as 58 new trains, including five new Jansadharan trains and an equal number of premium group of trains have been proposed in the Rail Budget presented by railway minister Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday. The new trains include six AC Express trains, 27 Express trains, eight passenger trains, two Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) services and 5 Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) services besides extension of 11 existing trains. MAIN POINTS-- 1-New Trains: 5 Jansadharan, 5 Premium and 6 AC, 27 Express Trains, 8 Passenger, 5 DEMU and 2 MEMU services; 11 train extensions. 2-Bullet train proposed on identified Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. Setting up Diamond Quadrilateral Network of high-speed trains connecting major metros and growth centers. 3-40% higher allocation, outsourcing at 50 major stations, onboard housekeeping to be extended to more trains. Increasing mechanized laundries for quality bedrolls in AC coaches, introduction of RO drinking water. 4-Poll:How do you rate the first Rail Budget presented by the NDA government? Tie-up with technical institutions. 9-Future E-Ticketing to support 7200 tickets per minute and to allow 120,000 simultaneous users. Wifi in A1 and A category stations and in select trains. Internet-based platform and unreserved tickets. 10-On staff welfare Hospital Management Information System to integrate all railway health units and hospital. 11-Internet and workstation facilities on select trains. 12-Provision of Rs 1785 crore for road-over/under bridges, multi-pronged approach to eliminate unmanned level crossings. 4,000 women constables to be recruited to ensure safety of women. 17,000 RPF constables to provide safety to passengers. LAST- On resource augmentation Setting up of logistic parks, private freight terminals on PPP model.
