NEW VACANCY AT MAIKHANDA Vacancy Announcement MaiKhanda Trust a local Non Governmental Organization which was launched in 2006 to save the lives of mothers and their babies by working in close partnership with Reproductive Health Directorate of the Ministry of Health towards the achievement of Malawi’s “Road Map for accelerating the reduction of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality and Morbidity in Malawi”. It supports their efforts to improve healthcare simultaneously in communities and at health facilities. MaiKhanda Trust is looking to recruit energetic, highly motivated and well experienced persons to fill the following positions: 1. Community Interventions Officer Job Summary The Community Interventions Officer is a member of the MaiKhanda Intervention Team and contributes to the program’s overall success in achieving its aim to improve the quality of maternal and neonatal health. The Community Interventions Officer has overall responsibility of leading in the implementation of the women’s group intervention and taskforces, conduct entry meetings in their catchment area, Health Facility orientations, monthly meetings with WGF’s Health Facility staff and Taskforce representatives etc. He/she reports to the Program Manager-Community Interventions and works in close collaboration with the MoH and other health sector stakeholders in the successful implementation of the program. This position is based in Ntchisi district Key Responsibilities of the position are to: • Conduct community entry meetings (DC, TAs , GVHs, VHS and village level) • Formation and establishment of women’s groups and Taskforces • Conduct trainings of task forces • Ongoing management and supervision of WGFs and Taskforces • Conduct monthly planning meetings with HSAs and women’s Group Facilitators • Document and disseminate lessons learnt • Data collection from task forces • Monthly data entry in the dashboard • Liaison with other organizations active in the program area to ensure good collaboration and communication where feasible • Monthly reporting to Program Manager-Community Interventions • To liaise with local authority and health representatives and other leaders and local representatives, to ensure acceptability of all district activities • Learning and adapting women’s group facilitation manual to meet group/staff needs • To liaise with and coordinate technical assistance from the Program Manager-Community Interventions • Should get a clear understanding of women’s group facilitation and its role in improving outcomes in maternal and newborn health Post Requirements: Knowledge and Experience • Excellent facilitation skills, personal maturity, sensitivity to gender and cultural issues and the ability to relate to people of all levels • Experience of working closely with communities in rural areas • Experience in community development activities • Proficiency in Chichewa and English • Willingness to travel within the catchment area of the program in the district • Experience with training and staff development • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision • Excellent interpersonal skills • Proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team • Strong project management skills including work-planning and delivering reliable results within agreed resources and timelines • Excellent organizational skills • Good negotiation and networking skills • Sound judgment, political sensitivity and good decision-making ability • Able to think strategically and optimize use of MaiKhanda’s resources • Ability to work effectively and sensitively in multi-national and multi-cultural environments and exemplify approaches to improvement • Ability to take initiative, be innovative, adaptable and flexible • A sense of integrity, professionalism and responsibility • Ability to manage competing demands with tact and discretion • Special consideration given to candidates with experience managing a diverse team of healthcare workers • A buoyant and outgoing personality with demonstrable ability to motivate others • Skills necessary to write clear and concise documents and reports 2. Facility Intervention Officer The Program Officer for Facility Intervention is a member of the MaiKhanda intervention Team and contributes to the program’s overall success in achieving its aim to improve the quality of maternal and neonatal health. Reporting to the Program Manager-Facility Intervention, the Program Officer for Facility Intervention has overall responsibility of leading facility work through QI teams at district level using Quality Improvement approach to ensure contribution towards achievement of Maikhanda overall aim. OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES OF PROGRAM OFFICER- FI • Leads the implementation of the intervention using QI approach. • Conducts regular coaching field visits • Coordinate learning sessions i.e. CEMoc Collaborative , Health Centre learning sessions, Change package, exchange visits • Leads and supports the implementation of the Facilities Intervention in collaboration with District Health Management Teams and Quality Improvement teams in health facilities. • Teach improvement methodologies to the facility quality improvement teams • Maintain regular contact with QI teams to motivate them and accelerate results • Support the facility –based quality improvement teams to analyze, interpret and use data from audits and PDSAs • Attend quarterly meetings of the DHMTs • Ensure coordination of activities with other key organizations, institutions and stakeholders within the scope of the programme. • Prepare and submit monthly reports on teams activities • Collect and enter data on monthly basis on teams process and outcome indicators • Monthly data entry in the dashboard • Liaison with other organizations active in the program area to ensure good collaboration and communication where feasible • Monthly reporting to the District Coordinator • To liaise with local authority and health representatives and other leaders and local representatives, to ensure acceptability of all district activities EDUCATION, BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE • Minimum of a Degree with a bias in Quality improvement or related • Excellent facilitation skills, personal maturity, • Ability to think strategically and optimize use of Maikhanda resources • Ability to work effectively and sensitively in multi-national and multi-cultural environments and exemplify approaches to improvement • Ability to take initiative, be innovative, adaptable and flexible • A sense of integrity, professionalism and responsibility • Ability to manage competing demands with tact and discretion • Ability to combine a commitment to goals with the patience and tolerance to function effectively under complex and ambiguous circumstances 3. M& E Officer Job Summary The Monitoring and Evaluation Officer is a member of the MaiKhanda Intervention Team and contributes to the program’s overall success in achieving its aim to improve the quality of maternal and neonatal health. Reporting to the Data Coordinator, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer has overall responsibility of collecting process indicators both at community and Health Facility, conducting sensitization meetings with local leaders and formation and training of taskforces. He/she works in close collaboration with the Data Coordinator, Program and Managers, MoH and other health sector stakeholders in the successful implementation of the program. This post is based in Ntchisi. Key Responsibilities • The MEO will work closely with Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) in their catchment areas with the aim of ensuring collection of process indicators both at community and Health Facility is done efficiently and effectively • Conduct monthly meetings with HSAs • The MEO will work closely with the senior Data Coordinator to ensure an effective and efficient M&E system. The MEO will be responsible for the implementation monitoring and evaluation activities such as coaching of task forces, formation, training of Taskforces and conducting sensitization meetings.
