NEW YEAR MESSAGE BY HIS EXCELLENCY PALAN MULONDA, AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA TO THE UNITED STATES. On behalf of the Acting President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr. Guy Scott; the Government of the Republic of Zambia; the Staff at the Embassy of Zambia in Washington DC and indeed on my own behalf and my family, I would like to wish you a happy and successful 2015. As we enter into the New Year, let us take this time to reflect on the past year which was quite eventful. Among others, our beautiful country Zambia reached a milestone in 2014, as we celebrated Zambia’s Independence Golden Jubilee. This was under the theme “Commemorating God’s favour of Zambia’s 50 years of Independence for continued peace, unity, democracy and prosperity”. Due to prudent governance and economic management by the leadership, Zambia continued to post positive economic growth. However, these successes could not have been attained by the leadership alone but with the help of many of you who also worked hard to contribute to these achievements. In addition, many of you also used the Golden Jubilee to market Zambia as a preferred destination for both Investment and Tourism. To this effect, may I take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who participated in this effort for the job well done. To the Zambians in the diaspora, I urge each and every one of you to continue being good ambassadors of our great country, Zambia. However, the past year wasn’t without its low moments. Sadly as we came to the close of the year, our nation faced the great loss of our dear President, His Excellency Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata. This was indeed a time of sorrow. Allow me to take this opportunity to thank you all for your overwhelming support, and show of unity of purpose and patriotism during that difficult and trying moment. Despite being far from home, you joined the nation in mourning by holding various memorial services to honor and celebrate the life of our departed president in different parts of the United States of America. As we go to the polls to elect the sixth president of Zambia, on 20th January, 2015, let us continue to enjoy our democracy by supporting peaceful transitions of power in unity through the ballot box. Let me assure you that the Washington Mission remains committed to working with you all to bring prosperity and glory to mother Zambia. I end by once again wishing you all a blessed, happy and prosperous 2015. May God bless you all.
