NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS We are all going to make them, we are all going to enter the new year with plans to change, be healthy and be fit. Half of us will have abandoned them before January is out. How do you give yourself the best chance to succeed? Be specific about your resolution. Make realistic, measurable goals, and write them down. Make sure they are achievable - if you want to lose four stone then give yourself 6 months - not 6-weeks. Break the goal into achievable smaller parts. To lose four stone in 6 months it will mean losing around about 2.5 lbs a week - thats your fist goal - if you are not doing this its not going to happen. Limit the number of resolutions you make. Stick to one or two no more Post your list in a visible place to serve as a reminder and to encourage yourself. Get support, birds of a feather flock together. Find friends who want to help you succeed, those who criticise you are jealous or too week minded to pursue their own dreams. Holding you back makes them feel better. Avoid people who try their best to sabotage your efforts. When they criticise you be honest and tell them what you think. Its not wrong to want to be fit and healthy, to want to look after yourself, to eat foods that are good for your body, to find time for exercise. Its wrong to want to eat junk, be lazy and not care about your health. Take action immediately. Sign up for a gym membership or buy any necessary equipment. Dont wait - tomorrow is always a day day away. START NOW. Practice the new behaviors that will encourage your success. Want to stop smoking? Dont hang out in smoking areas. Want to eat healthy? Dont bring desserts, junk food or processed food into the house. You dont need cheat days, you need a healthy plan you can sustain The most important point is to approach the new year with a positive outlook on your goals and resolutions. Having a positive attitude is the most important part of success. Start by saying you will achieve not moaning about doing it and waiting to fail. Will power is a frame of mind nothing else if you are positive you will succeed, being negative at the start is simply laying the foundation for failure and giving yourself an excuse to fail. Mark
