NEW ZEALAND BOUND…. Five current ACSOD students have started the new year preparing for the 25th ANNIVERSARY of the Alana Haines Australasian Awards to be held in WELLINGTON in NEW ZEALAND at Easter time. The students will travel with ACSOD faculty to NZ and there they will present a set solo chosen from the professional classical repertoire and a contrasting dance style (contemporary/lyrical). They will also take special adjudicated classical classes whilst in NZ. Candidates chosen solos are judged in 4 rounds Preliminaries, Quarter-Finals -Semi-finals – Finals and are proud to be selected to perform before a world class jury & contest top international training scholarships including: American Ballet Theatre New York, Canada’s National Ballet School Toronto Canada, Central School of Ballet London UK, English National Ballet School London UK, Harid Conservatory Florida USA, Houston Ballet Texas USA, Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance London, Rosella Hightower Cannes France, Royal Danish Ballet School Copenhagen Denmark, Russian Masters Summer School Alicante Spain, Stuttgart Ballet’s John Cranko School Germany. The five students (Tahnee, Madelyn, Ada, Maidie & Mio) are part of the ACSOD Vocational Training Program. The program going into its 6th year has nurtured many students with the correct and necessary guidance for the next chapter of their careers. Over the years International Professional Dancers/tutors such as Lisa Bolte, Steven Heathcote and currently under the guidance of Noelle Shader, have ensured Ballarat and student from regional areas pre-professional and pre full time training needs are assured in the ACSOD VTP. Many more of ACSOD VTP 2015 intake will this year attend the McDonald Sydney Eisteddfod and Other national and international events throughout the year.
