NEWS CONFERENCE: Saratoga County Sheriffs Office October 22, 2014 SARATOGA COUNTY, NY -- Officials with Capital Region Toys for Tots held a joined news conference with Saratoga County Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo and Saratoga County Emergency Management Director Carl Zeilman while at the Saratoga County Sheriffs Office Headquarters outside Ballston Spa on Wednesday afternoon. The purpose of the event was to announce a first-time formal partnership between Capital Region Toys for Tots and the Saratoga County Sheriffs Office and the Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services and to formally announce plans for Convoy for Tots 2014. Convoy for Tots has been set to include a mass of emergency vehicles and commercial and other trucks as part of a 13-mile journey which will take place between the Saratoga County Town of Wilton and Ballston Spa area on Sunday morning November 30th. The purpose for the convoy will be to help generate new, unwrapped toys to be distributed to less privileged children in areas throughout 13 counties in Upstate New York both in and around the Capital and Saratoga Regions this Holiday season. Participants are asked to bring at least one new, unwrapped toy to enter the convoy which has been set to line up in the area around the Wal Mart Store in the Town of Wilton starting at 9 a.m [Nov 30]. Vehicles will eventually be escorted through Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa starting at around 11 a.m. before ending at the Saratoga County Sheriffs Office Headquarters at 6010 County Farm Road just outside Ballston Spa where sheriffs office officials will be collecting toys as part of a drive-thru style drop-off. Members of the Patriot Guard Riders of New York have been set to proudly honor arriving participants according to officials. During Wednesdays news conference the Sheriff later announced that his agency will also be performing several toy-drive collections at a number of retail stores within his county with more formal details to be announced. Also in attendance at Wednesday afternoons news conference was Miss Upstate New York 2014 Madison Manuel along with members of the United States Marines, the United States Navy the Fulton County Sheriffs Office. Honored during the news conference was 5 year old Tori-Marie Person of Saint Johnsville, NY who was crowned by Miss Upstate New York and the Saratoga County Sheriff as Little Miss Convoy for Tots 2014. Person was chosen for her title after a panel of Capital Region Toys for Tots officials hand selected her photograph from hundreds of images that were collected during two convoy events that were held in Montgomery County during both 2013 and 2014 according to a statement read by Miss Upstate New York. The statement continued on to say that Capital Region Toys for Tots Campaign officials unanimously decided that Tori-Mares photograph stood out to represent the joy of Christmas and the message of hope that the Toys for Tots Foundation represents across America. Officials later announced that two event links have been set up on Facebook for the November 30th convoy.
