NEWS FROM THE BRECKENRIDGE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND RED, WHITE AND BLUE FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT For Immediate Release Contact: Colleen Goettelman Date:January 5, 2015 Phone: 970-453-2941 Gas Leak North Main St., Breckenridge At approximately noon on Sunday, January 4th firefighters from Red, White and Blue were notified by Xcel Energy of a possible gas leak in the area of 319 N. Main St. Upon arrival, firefighters were able to smell the odorant that is added to natural gas. Battalion Chief Ryan Roberts stated, “There was an odor that we could detect outside the structures, which prompted the closure of N. Main St. between Watson Ave. and N. French St. and the evacuation of four structures in the area for the public’s safety.” Xcel Energy has been working throughout the day and night to locate the source of the leak with the assistance of Red, White and Blue Fire Protection, Breckenridge Police Department, Summit County Office of Emergency Management, Lake Dillon Fire Protection District, Summit County Ambulance Service, Town of Breckenridge Public Works and the American Red Cross. At this time the cause of the leak is unknown and the area of N. Main St. between French and Watson will remain closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until further notice.
