NEWS RELEASE: Bear attack reported on JBER JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – A Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson female dependent was injured after an encounter with a brown bear sow defending her nearby cubs at Fossil Creek and Pole Line Road at approximately 11:30 a.m. today. The victim was transferred to the Alaska Native Medical Center in stable condition. Further information on victim will not be released per her request. JBER Wildlife Conservation and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game have closed all recreation areas along Pole Line Road until further notice as they continue to investigate the incident.
