NEWS RELEASE JEFFERSON PARISH, LOUISIANA November 5, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ROAD CLOSURE AMES BOULEVARD (Between Barataria Boulevard and St. Jude Street) Beginning Monday, November 10, 2014, at 8:00am and ending on Monday, November 14, 2016, at 5:00pm, Ames Boulevard between Barataria Boulevard and Saint Jude Street will close. During the closure, motorists traveling southbound on Ames Boulevard will be detoured at Barataria Boulevard to Leo Kerner Parkway. Motorists traveling northbound on Ames Boulevard will be detoured at St. Jude Street to Leo Kerner Parkway. The closure is necessary to install water line crossings and service connections across Ames Boulevard. Ames Boulevard between Barataria Boulevard and East Ames Boulevard will be under construction for approximately two (2) years. During the two (2) year period significant infrastructure improvements will occur in three (3) phases. Phase I will include the installation of a new water main. Phase II will include the installation of subsurface drainage and the elimination of existing roadside ditches. Phase III will include roadway installation and widening with the addition of a center turn lane and replacement of the existing asphalt road with a new concrete roadway. Intermittent closures will occur throughout the project. Various sections of Ames Boulevard will be closed at different stages of the project while maintaining local access. Road closure notices will be prepared for each phase of construction when major detours are required. Barriere Construction Company, LLC. is performing the work at an estimated cost of $6,268,351.60. The work is scheduled to be complete on Monday, November 14, 2016, barring any contractor delays and weather permitting.
