NEWS RELEASE January 7, 2015 On Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at approximately 12:35am, officers from the Florence Township Police Department were on patrol in the area of Route 130 and Cedar Lane when they observed a white Lexus driving erratically and then disregard the traffic signal. The vehicle was traveling south on Route 130 when Florence Township Officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop. The vehicle fled from officers on Route 130 South, traveling through Burlington Township and then entering the City of Burlington. As the vehicle approached Route 130 South and Keim Boulevard, the vehicle struck another vehicle and crashed into a pole. The driver of the suspect vehicle fled and a foot pursuit ensued with the suspect being placed into custody a short distance away. The driver was identified as Bryant L. Smith, Age 20, of Rochelle, Georgia. He received minor injuries from the crash and did not require hospitalization. The vehicle that was struck was occupied by two local residents. They received minor injuries and also did not require hospitalization. During this incident, officers received information that the vehicle was stolen out of Brooklyn, New York. Bryant L. Smith was charged by the Florence Township Police Department with Eluding, Obstruction of Justice, Receiving Stolen Property, along with motor vehicle offenses. He was lodged in the Burlington County Jail in default of $20,000 No 10% Bail. The crash is currently being investigated by the City of Burlington Police Department Traffic Unit with assistance from the Florence Township Police Department and Burlington Township Police Department. Additional charges for both criminal and motor vehicle violations are anticipated due to the crash.
