[NEWS] Soldiers raid NPA lair in North Cotabato Fri, 07 Mar 2014 03:21:11 +0000 by Malu Cadelina Manar March 7, 2014 (updated) Share this: KIDAPAWAN CITY – Government forces raided on Thursday a suspected hideout of the New People’s Army (NPA) in a remote village in a town in North Cotabato and confiscated guns, several subversive materials, and considerable cash, a top Army official said. Lt. Col. Noel Vinluan, commander of the Army’s 57th Infantry Battalion, said the house at Barangay New Cebu in President Roxas town is believed to be a hideout of a certain Commander Boboy of the NPA Front 51 operating in the hinterlands of North Cotabato. The raid took place after Vinluan received from reliable sources the presence of Commander Boboy in the area. He said that immediately after he confirmed the report, he ordered a raid in the area. Around 3:45 p.m., Thursday, a team from the 57th IB caught the rebels by surprise. They, however, eluded arrest after they engaged the soldiers in a firefight. The soldiers recovered a cash amounting to P100,000, which they believed was part of the P2.1 million the NPAs seized after they ambushed and killed eight members of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) under the 38th IB in Tulunan, North Cotabato in October 2013. Such cash, Vinluan said, was supposed to be distributed to CAFGU in Tulunan as evidenced by a payroll sheet recovered on site. The raiding team also seized from Commander Boboy’s hideout a caliber 45 and 22 pistols, a laptop, computer printer, and bomb making materials, including 20 mobile phones, which they set to use as triggering devices for improvised explosive devices. Vinluan said they brought the recovered items to their headquarters in Makilala as evidence for charges they would set to file against the NPAs.
