NEWS: Staff at Winston’s Wish, the UK’s leading childhood bereavement charity, are sporting branded lycra and trainers and taking to the streets in preparation for major running and triathlon events over the coming months. As an official charity partner of the #Cheltenham Half Marathon, Winston’s Wish and its employees are enthusiastically backing the event and have been encouraging their extensive band of fundraisers and staff to take part, raising vital funds to help children and young people who have been bereaved. Catherine Ind (Head of Fundraising and Regional Development), Judith Kaltoff (Senior Practitioner) and Rachel Noble (Partnerships Assistant) are all racking up the miles and tallying up their sponsorship pledges ahead of this popular road race, taking place in the heart of regency Cheltenham on September 7th. Karen Galpin (Marketing Communications Manager) will act as an official pacer for the event. Venturing further North, Kathryn Leverett (Community Fundraising Team Leader), will be setting a fine example to her team by taking on the Great North Run in Newcastle, also on September 7th. Kathryn chose running this iconic 13.1 mile race with her husband as a way to celebrate her 40th birthday. Holly Burlton (Helpline Practitioner) will be going the extra mile and taking on three sporting disciplines at this year’s London triathlon on August 2nd. Tackling the Olympic distance for the first time, Holly will be swimming 1.5 kilometres, cycling 40 kilometres and then following up with a ten kilometre run in an attempt to raise as much as possible for Winston’s Wish. Several members of staff at the charity’s Cheltenham head office have also been warming up for local races by forming a running group and training every Wednesday evening after work. Louise Walker (Community Outreach Senior Practitioner) is finding this supportive group particularly beneficial in the lead up to a target 10K race in September. Gianna Daly (Head of Clinical Services) and Clara Browning (Fundraiser) have also attended. Winston’s Wish helps children rebuild their lives after the death of a parent, brother or sister, enabling them to face the future with confidence and hope. Professional therapeutic help is provided in individual, group and residential settings, and via a national Helpline, interactive website and publications. The charity depends almost entirely on voluntary donations for its income.
