NEWS UPDATE @ 9AM WITH Orange: SSEBAGALA WANTS TO BE THE NEXT MAYOR: Former Kampala Mayor Al-Hajji Nasser Ntege Ssebagala has expressed interest in running for the city mayoral seat. Ssebaggala says this after the Electoral Commission (EC) set April 17 as the date for the by-elections. Meanwhile, embattled Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has written to the EC, warning them against holding the by-elections saying the 23rd November 2013 court order still stands. FDC SAYS NRM DAYS ARE NUMBERED: The FDC party has warned that the ruling NRM partys days are numbered. The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon Wafula Oguttu notes that the NRMs youth wing stands out as the biggest potential cause of the NRMs downfall in the near future. He says this following recent reports of a section of youth supporting party Secretary General Amama Mbabazi and another supporting President Museveni for the 2016 presidential elections. MAN BEATEN TO DEATH FOR KILLING WIFE: Police in Luweero District are investigating circumstances under which a 39-year-old man was beaten to death for allegedly killing his wife. It is reported that before beating up Mutwalib Lugendo, the neighbours had sighted him chasing his wife with a machete shortly before she died from wounds at a nearby clinic. RELATIVES OF MISSING JET PASSENGERS SPEAK OUT; “WE WANT OUR PEOPLE”: Relatives of Chinese passengers on board missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 have declined to accept money from the airline which had offered “financial assistance” of $5,000 to the family of each missing traveller. However, a relative of one of the passengers, from east China’s Shandong province, said they were not interested in the money but wanted their people back. MAN ON DEATH ROW FOR 25 YEARS, FREED: A man who spent more than 25 years on death row in the US has walked free from prison after his murder conviction for the 1983 killing of a jeweler was overturned.
