NEWS UPDATE; At least 14 million Ugandans have been registered for national Identity Cards Speaking at the launch of the 2nd phase of the exercise yesterday, Internal Affairs minister, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima said the exercise has met about 70% of its objective, with close to 3 million people yet to be registered. Aronda said issuance of the national IDs will kick off by September, however those who have not registered will be able to do so at the sub-county level from 12th August to 27th February 2015. According to Aronda, Ugandans living in the Diaspora will have to come back home to register. He also said prisoners will only get IDs after being freed from prison. He further issued a stern warning to cult movements for blocking communities from registering, saying the police has been notified to deal with them according to the law.
