NEWSFLASH! The current owner of Maris childhood home has now donated the whole building to Same collections /exhibits - in other words Karasjok Local Council and Same interests within the county. Nice to know that generosity and good common sense can still prevail in some situations. However, although two important milestones have been reached in the last five days 1) to prevent Maris home from being burnt to the ground 2)to ensure that the house is under the safeguard of Karasjok municipality. BUT THIS IS WHERE THE HARD WORK REALLY BEGINS! The building needs to be extensively renovated and modernised - but in a way that preserves the buildings soul and charm. Also, this is an ideal way to attract people from around the world to Karasjok. This can actually create enormous possiblities for the whole of Finnmark as a region, comprising of several large municipalities. Mari was born in the county of Karasjok. Her grandmother on her mothers side was from the county of Kautokeino. She currently lives in the county of Porsanger close to her two sons and grandchildren...and studied and had her first student band in the county of Alta - the capital of Norwegian Sapmi. She is a great ambassador for all of these regions - for Sápmi and the rest of the world. So lets turn this monument to Mari into a modern Sami interactive cultural centre, creating a new tourist industry to Karasjok and the benefits it brings (taxis, new B&Bs, shops, day trips to Gameshisnjárga..other cultural visits in the area and so forth and not just from Sápmi but from the rest of the world
