NGAUS JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Position: Principal Deputy Director Membership, Marketing & Development Reports to: Director, Membership, Marketing & Development This position is based in Washington, D.C. There is no option to telecommute. About NGAUS: The association includes nearly 45,000 current or former Guard officers. It was created in 1878 to provide unified National Guard representation in Washington. In their first productive meeting after Reconstruction, militia officers from the North and South formed the association with the goal of obtaining better equipment and training by petitioning Congress for more resources. Today, 135 years later, NGAUS has the same mission. Primary Function: Promote membership growth and member retention. Organize and support NGAUS increased awareness programs through marketing efforts. Coordinate and support open house events, such as NGAUS Industry Day activities. Serve as marketing support for branch programs through public relations, printed materials, etc. Review and evaluate membership transactions, statistics and program registration. Evaluate and implement member service operations and state communications. Coordinate arrangements for group meetings and conventions by performing duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Provide coaching, appraise effectiveness and discipline as necessary. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1. Develop and execute a comprehensive annual plan to recruit new members and retain existing members of NGAUS 2. Develop and execute creative recruitment workshops and briefings at regional, state, and local unit-based levels 3. Work in partnership with State Association Executive Directors, Presidents and Membership point of contacts in developing and executing targeted membership plans (Component Relations) 4. Supervise membership staff and Industry Staff 5. Oversee management of Association Management Software 6. Work closely with Board of Directors and membership committee 7. Develop marketing messages and campaigns targeting individual and corporate membership 8. Represent NGAUS at various events 9. Primary coordinator/sales for the annual NGAUS conference 10. Supervise Industry Liaison activities 11. Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications, Skills and Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Current or former commissioned or warrant officer in the Army or Air National Guard • Member of NGAUS • Ability to serve as a strong, compelling ambassador for NGAUS • Creative, energetic, entrepreneurial spirit • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, be organized and flexible, and prioritize responsibilities • Superior interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) • Demonstrated experience in budget development and management • Business Acumen, strategic planning, and resource management skills • Strong IT and social media capabilities • Event Planning and nonprofit fundraising • Ability to travel as necessary (up to 20% of time) • Ability to supervise and work as a team member Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s Degree or greater and related experience and/or training. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before board of directors, executive directors/presidents or employees of organization. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software, Word Processing software and Association Management Software.
