NGETMOIS GLADYS JEPKECHEI MISSES RECRUITMENT CHANCE AGAIN Adopted from #DN On Monday 14th July 2014, during Kenya Police Recruitment Exercise in KABARNET, Ms Gladys Jepkechei, 24, who was in the news in 2010 after being enlisted to join Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) but was later dismissed on grounds that she was pregnant on reporting at the Recruit Training School (RTS) in Eldoret turned up to try her luck. So determined was Gladys that she comfortably came first in the race to test the recruits’ physical fitness long before her fellow recruits. This was the fourth time the soft spoken lady was trying her luck to join the disciplined forces. Apart from trying twice to join KDF, Ms Jepkechei has also tried her luck to join Kenya Wildlife Service. Jepkechei who hails from Kabarbarma village in Ng’etmoi location of Baringo central sub-county was dismissed on the grounds that she was medically unfit. Gladys was the only successful woman in Baringo Central constituency to land the KDF job during the recruitment exercise in 2010. She had reported to the barracks on 25th October as had been stated in the calling letter. After being subjected to some tests she was told that she is expectant therefore unfit to take part in the training. Before that she had been given her Service Number 109524. However subsequent pregnancy tests she underwent at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret tested negative for pregnancy. The recruitment exercise which took place at Kabarnet stadium saw thousands of youths turn out to try out their luck to join Kenya Police, General Service Unit and Administration Police. Some youth were disqualified after using dubious means including motorbikes to finish the race earlier. The exercise saw 49 recruits enlisted to the various forces with Kenya Police taking the lion’s share of 23 recruits (10 ladies and 13 men), 13 were enlisted to join AP while GSU took 13. Briefing the press after the exercise, Baringo Central Sub-County police boss Charles Musewe said that all four divisions in the county including Salawa, Kabarnet, Tenges, Sacho were considered in the exercise. “The exercise was fair and transparent. We also considered the minority groups including the Nubians and gender. We didn’t receive any cases of irregularities,” said Mr Musewe.
