NGO (EDFE) DONATE LIBRARY, BOOKS, WORTH N5,000,000 TO A LANGTANG NORTH LG SCHOOL An NGO, Education Development Foundation For Excellence (Edfe) established IN 2012 whose main focus is to assist the less privilege in the society went to Zamko to assist Science Pilot Primary School, at Zamko, Langtang North. In sticking to one of its core values in bridging the gap between the girl child education it donated A Library, books and other scholastic materials worth N 5,000,000 to the school. the president of the organisation, MRS. ESTHER BALI, who was represented at the occasion by the chairman of the NGO, Dr Bata Musa, urged all the relevant authorities including the government to look into the need of the girl child education in the country. on her part , the director programmes and operations of the foundation, Dr. Nana C. Emmanuel noted that creating literate environment in the Nigerian society is needful if poverty must be eradicated and maternal mortality reduced to the barest minimum. The educational secretary Langtang North LGA Mr. Godfry Butrim, expressed deep appreciation to the NGO for providing a word class Library to the community . The speech of the president read at the occasion has been published bellow SPEECH BY THE PRESIDENT, EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION FOR EXCELLENCE (EDFE), MRS. ESTHER BALI TO THE COMMISSIONING OF THE EDFE SCHOOL LIBRARY PROJECT AND DONATION OF BOOKS TO PILOT SCIENCE PRIMARY SCHOOL - ZAMKO, LANGTANG NORTH LGC, PLATEAU STATE ON THE 3RD DECEMBER, 2014. PROTOCOL I welcome you all to this commissioning ceremony and the EDFE School Library project and donation of books to Pilot Science Primary School - Zamko Today’s event is in line with our NGOs priority on educational development as captured in our Vision, Mission and Thematic Areas of the Organization. PREAMBLE In tandem with the crux of Education Development Foundation for Excellence’s aim, goal, objective, strategy and policy direction thrust of interventions, advocacy partnership, and collaboration with government, private and cooperate institutions as well as individuals stakeholders, in attaining her programme mandate, EDFE had gargantuan success stories and achievements in the programmes implemented over the years despite all odds. INTRODUCTION EDFE is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) registered with the Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC) Abuja – Nigeria, in 2002, as an Association and evolved over the years to a Foundation. The vision of the Foundation hinges on the passion of the President and Founder Mrs. Esther Bali that, Education is at the heart of every human development, increasing assesses and quality will provide the needed improvement that individual, families, communities and nation’s desires or need to advance. EDFE seeks to undertake corrective initiations in educationally disadvantaged areas within the communities with focus on increasing access to sustainable quality health initiative to women, individuals and families, communities and to enhance capacity building through seminars and workshops as well as Youth/Women Education and Empowerment, and in promoting recommendations for continuous improvements of such facilities to better the lives of the less privileged in the society. The organization undertook the process of building teachers’ capacity to effectively transfer learning and create an atmosphere for conducive learning for students, with an emphasis on the educationally disadvantaged areas of Nigeria. The foundations initial activities began with the provision of financial help or grants and loans to educational institutions and organizations as well as providing scholarships to indigent students. In response to identified need, the foundation expanded its scope to include Health, Environment, Research, Capacity building, Advocacy and Rights based approach. Overall, EDFE seeks to contribute to increasing access to quality Education and Health care services through Capacity Building, Research, Advocacy dissemination of timely and useful information and materials. EDFE programmes and activities aimed to promote quality initiatives through training programmes, workshops and seminar with a view to creating solutions and identifying best practices, gap in Education, Health and Capacity Building for Teachers in both Primary/Secondary Schools for quality delivery in these areas. EDFE has successfully undertaken the process of building teachers capacity to effectively transfer learning and create an atmosphere for conducive learning for students over the year and believes in partnership and collaboration with Private and Cooperate Institutions as well as Individuals Stakeholders, in attaining her goals and objectives. Mission: EDFE is committed to increasing access to individuals, families; communities quality education, health care efficiently and effectively support efforts that improve community’s health, environment and economic development goals which work to fill their overall needs and well-being through capacity building, advocacy, research and stakeholders’ engagement Values: Transparency, Integrity, Honesty, Empowerment and Respect Thematic Areas of EDFE Ø Family Planning Ø Global Libraries Ø Maternal New & Child Health Ø Nutrition Ø Polio Ø Water, Sanitation & Hygiene EDFE also have focus working with; ü Schools ü Community ü Women and Children ü Youth development & empowerment EDFE Programs/Activities over the year Our Experience Over the years, EDFE has worked and organised series of trainings and workshop in collaboration with the NAPO International School – Abuja, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Federal Ministry of Education - Abuja, The Nigerian Airforce, Federal Ministry of Health, NACA – Abuja, Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sport, Plateau State Government to mention a few amongst others. Networking/ Partnerships EDFE is committed in the area of networking and collaborating with other stakeholders in the aspect of training, seminars and workshops. EDFE over the years for instance, participated in Spectrum Software Training/workshop for Population Modeling organized by the White Ribbon Alliance In conjunction with USAID and Health Policy Project, as well as the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA), ICPD National Technical Meeting for CSOs for shadow report writing. EDFE also took part in the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA) in the efforts and process of formulating a five years (2013 – 2017) strategic Plan in Nigeria. Similarly, most of the UN International Days were observed by the Foundation and being hoisted on EDFE seamlessly interactive websites as well as press releases on contemporary issues updated. EDFE School Library Project PURPOSE: To expand EDFEs’ strategies in promoting quality education, and as part of the its drive in cultivating a reading culture amongst Nigerian students, the Education Development Foundation for Excellence (EDFE), embarked on the renovation and donation of books and other learning materials to Science Primary School Zamko, Langtang North LGA, School, Plateau State. Similar Library project was commissioned in COCIN Primary School, Busa-Buji, Laranto in Jos with the renovation/donation of books and other learning materials to commemoration the 2012 World Literacy Day. Scholarships/Sponsorship In line with its aims and objective in leveraging the plight of the indigents, EDFE sponsored students’ through its scholarships scheme worth over N10.5 million over the years. Finance Grant/Sponsorship and finances has remain a critical “life wire” of any organization especially NGO to succeed in its drives and activities. Finance serves as an engine lubricant for any organization to assume the role as a catalyst in making deference in the society. However, EDFEs funds is provided by donors, individuals as well as in partnership with corporate and private organizations geared to make better the lots of less privilege in the communities especially girls and women. Conclusion EDFE is at the threshold to building a robust success by taking a giant stride in seeking out more partnership and collaboration with Government, Private and Cooperate Institutions as well as Individuals Stakeholders, these will doubtlessly enhance EDFE confident and will be better positioned it to take advantages of the opportunities that will present itself to the actualization of its aims and objective. I therefore urge educational organizations, institutions, NGOs, CBOs and stakeholders to expand their strategies and capacities in promoting quality education in the country. In the same vein, I call on financial institutions to give greater financial and material support to the effort of increasing literacy and to the attainment of the goal of education for all in Nigeria.
