NHC has upgraded Tropical Depression Eight-E to Tropical Storm Hernan (pronounced her NAHN), centered over the eastern North Pacific Ocean about 530 miles south-southeast of the southern tip of Baja California. Maximum sustained winds are 40 mph and some additional strengthening during the next day or so is expected. There are no coastal watches or warning in effect. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Genevieve is centered over the far eastern Pacific Ocean about 1265 miles east-southeast of South Point Hawaii. It was downgraded to a tropical depression today and is forecast to weaken to a remnant low on Sunday, if not earlier.
