NHL Hall of Famer FRANK BRIMSEK 1933 Copper Printing Plate – 11 x 17” $279 DELIVERED in the US Here is one of the most extraordinary pieces of sports memorabilia you’ll see this year –something that belongs in a museum or the Hall of Fame. This is an antique copper newspaper printing plate bearing the images of members of the 1933 St. Cloud (Minnesota) State University football team, featuring hockey great Frankie Brimsek! Except for yearbooks, this is quite possibly the first time a printed image of Brimsek EVER appeared in public! Brimsek recorded a total of 40 shut-outs in his career. He won two Vezina Trophies, the Stanley Cup twice and played in two NHL All-Star games. In 1966 he became the first American player EVER voted into the hockey Hall of Fame! In 1973, Frank was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in his hometown of Eveleth, Minnesota. In 1998, shortly before his death, “The Hockey News” named him number 67 on the list of the top 100 NHL players of all time! This amazing metal plaque measures a huge 11 ½ x 17 1/4 inches! It’s an inch thick and weighs several pounds. Because it was used for letterpress printing, the type on the plate is actually backwards. On the wall or in a display case, the type isn’t really noticeable, but the vintage uniforms and the leather helmets are nothing short of stunning when rendered in vintage copper! Not many things in my collection garner as much attention as this magnificent piece. But, I’m changing the focus of one of my largest displays, so I’m ready to let this go. Someone with knowledge of metal or chemistry could easily strip the copper and clean it to even out the tone, if you like. I have left it as-is since I came to own it nearly forty years ago. You might want to find a printer or artisan who uses older methods and make prints from this plate. Collectors love pieces with the vintage leatherheads look. What would those sell for?!
