NHL ROCKET ALUMNI VISITS WMMC We were pleased last night to have a visit from former Rocket Rookie of the Year, NHL alumnus and possibly the most skilled player to ever wear a Rocket sweater, Patrick OSullivan. Patrick played the 1999-2000 season with the Rockets as a 14-year-old. The super underage phenom finished 20th in the league in scoring. The previous year Patrick played the last half of the season with the Rockets affiliate the Alvinston Flyers as a 13-year-old leading them in scoring. Attached is Patricks first Rocket goal. It came just 14 seconds into the Rockets first game of the year against the Petrolia Jets. Below is Patricks bio from the Hockey Hall of Fame. Patrick is presently an unrestricted free agent. Patrick OSullivan was born February 1, 1985 in Toronto, Ontario. As an infant, Patrick and his parents moved to Winston-Salem North Carolina, where his father was playing minor pro hockey, but the family returned to the Toronto area when Patrick was only 5 years old. Patrick carries duel citizenship as his father is Canadian and his mother American. An explosive and creative goal scorer, OSullivan joined the OHLs Mississauga Ice Dogs in 2001. His first year with Mississauga saw the centreman capture both the Canadian Major Junior & Ontario Hockey League Rookie of the Year Awards in 2001-02. After being drafted by the Minnesota Wild in 2003 (56th overall), OSullivan failed to claim a spot with the Wild out of training camp that fall and was subsequently returned the OHL. The following season he led Mississauga with 82 regular season points and 23 post-season points en route to an Eastern Conference championship with the IceDogs. He made his professional hockey debut with Minnesotas AHL affiliate, the Houston Aeros in 2005-06. His remarkable season in Houston saw the rookie tally 47 goals and 93 points breaking all Houston Aeros rookie scoring records. Despite the amazing season in Houston and being named the AHL rookie of the year, the Wild opted to trade OSullivan and a first round selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft to the Los Angeles Kings for Pavol Demitra. He began the 2006-07 NHL Season with the Kings. He would go on to split his second professional season with his new clubs AHL affiliate in Manchester. Internationally, OSullivan has represented the United States at the World Junior Championships (2003, 2004, 2005) and the World Championships (2006, 2008). In the 2004 junior tournament, he scored the game-winning goal en route to a gold medal for Team USA. On March 4, 2009, the NHLs trade deadline, OSullivan was shipped from Los Angeles to Edmonton as part of a three team trade that included the Carolina Hurricanes. Following the 2009-10 season, OSullivans time in Edmonton would come to an end when the young forward was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Jim Vandermeer. His contract was immediately bought out by the Coyotes and he hit the free agent market. On September 17, 2010, OSullivan signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. OSullivan would not spend much time in Carolina however, after just 10 games he was waived by the club and picked up the MInnesota Wild, the club that had drafted him back in 2003.
