NHU was the home to so many dreamers, the place for Familia in Education, the lab for creating second chances for so many students. It was the place for Don Quixote and other characters to exist. Many people changed their lives, moved from different States, and left so much behind to help fulfill the dream. One character in this book is Dr. Carlos von Son. “Carlitos” or “Dr. Von Son” as so many friends and students called him, left San Diego and moved to San Jose to teach at NHU. During many years he was the voice to many. He will proudly stand and say “ Si, Latinos con orgullo y con acento”. Unfortunately, the same energy that kept him going at NHU was pulled away from him when he could not teach in the magical place anymore. Now he is very ill and we must pray for him. Carlos brought his passion and bicultural understanding to San Jose and institutionalized the Day of the Death, Dia de los Muertos. Here is a link to some videos to bring some of those memories back. Please keep Carlos in your prayers and positive thoughts! https://youtube/watch?v=3UlWLLIGUDM https://youtube/watch?v=uLgU5dLu-IA&index=5&list=PLA98508D752C2D8EE https://youtube/watch?v=YTfjJAoRIdc https://youtube/watch?v=eyyfg2WLgvY
