NIASSA LION PROJECT Mozambique Just before Christmas, - TopicsExpress

NIASSA LION PROJECT Mozambique Just before Christmas, Agostinho took 6 members of the three livestock breeding groups to visit two livestock breeders in Marrupa outside Niassa and one breeder in Mecula. It was a positive experience for them to see how productive rabbit and duck breeding can be and for them all to learn from each other. They will now spread what they learned about the importance of hygiene, good hutches, alternative food sources and possibility of growth with all their group members. It was very encouraging for them to see that all these breeders were managing to produce almost all their caril from their own animals and sell some for added income. At CF rabbits provide food and income for orphans. Ismael, “Grupo Dja Kalunga” says that now believes that he can use the animals to produce its own “caril” and go to fish only to vary the “caril”. This is great news as the whole point of this program is to provide an alternative protein source, increase food security and income and reduce reliance on bushmeat. More than 66 households are now involved in this initiative. We believe strongly in peer to peer learning. Here they are with Irma Lucilnild in Marrupa and the rabbit breeder in Mecula who has the most amazing locally built rabbit hutch.
