NIGERIA 15 YEARS IN DARKNESS. WHAT NEXT? After 15 years of Democracy, Nigeria is still engulfed with darkness. In 1999 Peoples Democratic Party promised to restored constant electricity and improved standard of living of Nigerians but after 15 years down the line, the hope is becoming slimmer as the clock tick. As the Minister of Steal and Power, late Bola Ige promised to improved electricity within 6 months at the end of the day it was just another political vuvuzela. Afterward he was made Minister of Justice, the office he held before he was murdered. The government went as far to change the nomenclature from NEPA (Never Expect Power Always) to PHCN ( Power Hostility Compulsory Nigeria) yet no visible change was noticed. The government of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa YarAdua and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan spent more than $50 billion yet no improvement. Under the tenure of former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji we saw and experienced some improvement but the power to be force him out of office on the eve of the Privatization of PHCN. The present government finally sold PHCN to some individual and handed over the generation and distribution to them. Today, the condition is worse off, even more devastating in Edo state where must of my family lived. The new manager exploit and oppress the people. The Company illegally collect N750 service charge plus other consumption bills monthly even when there is no light at all. From the report I received from friends and other Nigerians from other states, the experience is the same across the breath and length of Nigeria. . What is the regulatory body established to monitor these new managers of electricity doing? Or is this another Padipadi Government Magic? It seem the solution to electricity problem is not near at all. Its obvious without constant electricity generation and distribution, industrial revolution will always be a mirage in Nigeria. It is a total failure on the part of PDP controlled federal government not to have the capability and idea to raise our Megawatts to at least 10000 after 15 years. Its shameful and embarrass for a party who proud itself as the biggest political party in Africa and boasted to rule Nigeria for 60 years is finding it difficult to at least give us 4000mw after more than a decade in power. How does pdp expect to increase employment when there is no power to produce? Obviously 15 years is enough for serious party to make a positive changes in the lives of people especially when the party control more than 60 percent of the political office in particularly defined territory. 2015 is 6 months away and another round of elections will be due. Politicians are already sharing bags of rice and tins of Vegetable oil. Theyre repeating the same promise they made in 1999, telling us sweet stories. They continue to tell the same story they told us 15 years ago. How long shall we allow these same politicians who have milk all of us to still continue in power? Must we allow them to ruin us for 60 years? Nigerians the choice is yours.
