NIGERIA: NOT EVERYONE BELIEVES THE DOG MEAT MYTHS! Not everyone in Nigeria eats dog nor does everyone believe the myths surrounding its so-called powers. Nigerian office worker named Mary Iroanya says: “The very idea of eating dog meat is absolutely disgusting and the talk about dog meat curing diseases and giving protection against charms and the rest is mere superstition.” “People who eat dog meat only use those excuses to convince themselves that what they are doing is okay, Iroanya told MyNews. Look closely at the photograph: a Nigerian dog butcher is slamming a rod down onto the shoulder of dog which is tied to a post. Saynotodogmeat.Net has video footage of the entire event. The hit was supposed to land on the dog’s head but the butcher miscalculated and broke the dog’s shoulder instead. It tool several heavy blows with the rod just to knock the dog out, but of course he wasn’t killed outright. What you can’t see in the photo is the young child standing to the left of the dog, holding a thin rope to keep the dog’s head relatively still. Not only does their system not work, it’s also teaching children to accept animal cruelty.
