NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS (1960--date) Nigeria is a country blessed with natural resources. The problems arising from the government sector cannot be over emphasized, corruption has gone to the highest peak because of power. Everybody wants to get power just few out of all cared for the masses.those in power do not want to give chance for young people who have a dream for this country to emerge. Federal character and god fatherism is the order of the day but i thank God who have intervened for the poor ones in this country. Alot of uncertainties has been happening since 1960 till date. Everybody is fighting for power but the mystery behind Nigerian politics is that power and governance is made for the nobodies. In the first republic Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was made the ceremonial head of state from 1960-1966 before the emergence of the military government. General Olusegun Okekiola Aremu Obasanjo was the last military head of state in the first republic,he decided to give back power to the civilian Government and among all aspirants emerged Alhajid shehu Shagari who became the first executive president in the 2nd republic in 1979,he was a teacher before Gen olusegun obasanjo handed power to him. There was a bloodless coup that brought military Government back to power in 1983.from 1983 till 26th august 1993 the military were in power, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida handed power to chief Earnest Shonekan who was a civilian in 1993 and he ruled for 3 months before he was over thrown in a coup. A military Government headed by General Sani Abacha came to power,he ruled from 17th Nov 1993 till 8th june 1998 when he died. General Abdusalami Abubakar came to power he ruled from 1998 till 29th may 1993. He decided to give back power to the civilians,election was conducted he found none of the asperants worthy power was given Olusegun Obasanjo who was serving his prison term. Olusegun Obasanjo ruled from 1993 till 2007 and handed power to Alhaji umaru musa yar Adua,Baba went further to appoint a man who was nobody and once had no shoes. Dr Goodluck was made the vice president and currently he is the president of this country.lets shun corruption,ethnic chovnism and war,l ets join hands to move Nigerian forward.
