NIGERIAS PROBLEM: My Opinion! First, our problem is NOT the many regions and many languages we have. Nobody in Nigeria has been reported beaten because he/she speaks a different language. Our problem is also NOT religious, even though many crimes of hate and sheer indifference to humanity has been excused on religion. Now, CORRUPTION is a mind problem. CORRUPTION is a psyche, a foundational problem we have accepted as a virtue of strength. I think Nigerians have embarked on a struggle for domination within the historical opportunities our putrefying value system and decaying cultural imperatives has offered us. Our desire to be seen as better than the other person, our very larcenous impulse to outdo the neighbor, the ever-increasing penchant for impunity is all over our mindset to cause unheard arm to others, we betray ourselves and others in the bid to justify the means to no end. We lack any moral fiber as a people mostly, we swear by anything in heavens and on earth to protect our lies to each other and the nation. We scam within and without, we cheat, we deceive after stealing and deceive again when we are caught red-handed. We pilfer and we take bribes to blindness. From the house-helps to the driver and to the top Oga in the house, at work, in the Church, in the Mosque, in the clubs, in private enterprises to the royal palaces unto the governments at every level. Remorse is absent and nobody gets to be sorry for any wrong. Repentance is far from us, as we are only regretting how stupid we have been when caught and not why the wrong was done in the first place. We only regret not doing it better than that. One very damning part is that millions of those who are guilty in unseen platforms are also here on social media ventilating anger and outbursts. Why? They are angry some other ones are way robbing than they are! They are appalled at the lack of opportunities eluding them as main players in the cult of active national roguery. How can tribe be your problem Nigerians, when Bornu Sherriff of Borno state is a very good parley of Bola Tinubu. Asari Dokubo is also in love with Major Mustapha. Tafa Balogun, Bode George, Kalu, Ibori, Maina, Ewang etc have some things in common - goodluck is what Nigerians call it. Name ten major morally gluttonous Nigerians and they are from all tribes within. How can religion be our problem when Bishops and Imams are friends in the secret and are preaching seemingly contradictory messages on the outside to the applause of arranged spectators called congregants. Go check major businesses in Nigeria and see how Popes and Sheikhs are great business partners, pillaging our commonwealth at no mercy. We just do same thing at different levels of our social strata. A thief is the one that is caught is the Nigeria mantra. The ones we complain about is those in public trust of our nationhood. It is difficult to get anyone to seriously challenge the other because we are all guilty at all levels. We are indifferent because we are also in the same boat. Ask yourself this very simple question; Am I not also working towards making enough to buy a bulletproof car to show off? The so called Asinine Defense of regional representation in the stealing business in Nigeria is a macrocosm of what we have at local levels. Every town or village is waiting for their turn to have a representation at the top. They are not concerned about what development he/she brings, but just to be able to vocally link a big man to your village is enough pride for most Nigerians (education notwithstanding). We are in a CONTEST! Within the same purview, each village, town and clan simply joins in the pursuit of a glorious son(s) in the comity of the greats. It is a contest, at the expense of a sane Nigeria. The extremely rich are the extremely wicked ones, they are the extreme rogues and thieves of our commonwealth. Why we protect them to balance tribal strength is not far fetched in understanding. We have always believed as a people in justifying the great successes in our midst as zonal or regional acquisition. We like to prove Hausas are greater than Ibos and Yorubas are the best, when actually the sincerely successful ones had to pay personal prices for greatness. Since greatness is not ascribed to sincerity and dint of hardwork, we simply welcome the new Billionaire as our own and are ready to protect him/her as ours because somewhere in our psychology we are in competition with each other. Our I must be better than my neighbor thing is the major reason for the level of carefree negligence we attend our national life. May be we were wired to be naturally competitive as a people? May be we were socially and genetically framed to rival each other? I know for sure that we were not created like that, but we may have inherited a mutated genetical coding during the amalgamation and independence, and the succeeding regional competition of the 60s to be this systemic faulty as a people. I have a recommendation to make: We will do better if we redirect that energy for competition to nation building and national consciousness.
