NIMechE 2014 in Review: NIMechE Ilorin Chapter Inaugurated, UNILORIN joined NSF as Engr Prince Oyedepo (Our past National Chairman) buried dad. The NIMechE have been growing steadily (both in membership strength and Chapters spread) in the past few years with our Chapters spread across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria including FCT. Each of our recognized Chapters has State chairman how lead the state executive committee that oversee the affairs of NIMechE in the State. They meet once a month while also executing programmes according to the needs of their respective states. Our growth have been accompanied by the determination of the active members and chapters leaders in conjunction with the National Secretariat to keep our flag flying. And to keep oiling the wheel of our progress. After our National Conference in Akure, the Institution Officially Inaugurated the ILORIN Chapter in a colourful ceremony that excited a host of senior engineers in both public and private sector, industrialists and government officials. The event which started with reception of the presidential entourage at the airport was followed by Courtesy visit to the MD LUBCON Industries at the Companys Conference Hall. It was subsequently followed up with a tour of the industrial complex. LUBCON, a locally owned industry have managed to build a formidable presence over the years and also expanded to other West African countries. They have also built their operation around locally sourced materials while maintaining their standards. The company also invested in Corporate Social Responsibility in the state. We do sincerely hope that our government will look into industries like this and encourage them to grow stronger despite the current industrial climate in the country. We then moved to venue of Inauguration venue where the Chapter was officially unveiled and Dr. Jacob Aweda sworn in as the First Chairman of the Chapter.. The following day, the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN joined the growing rank of our University chapters. Certificate of recognition was issued to them through the Dean of Engineering who was also presence. The event was rounded up as the Outgoing National Chairman Engr Fanimokun, FNSE, FNIMechE appeared on UNILORIN FM live programme. The team then moved to Osun State to attend the burial of Father of our past national Chairman.,, Engr Prince Oyedepo, FNSE, FNIMechE. it was two days of full packed activities came to an end. And we returned back to Lagos with nostalgia and feeling of fulfillment. As with every fruitful endevour, we give the glory to God and honour to men and women who made it a reality. Welcome, ILORIN, home of Afonja to the fold of Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers Family, Welcome UNILORIN to our growing list of our student chapters. Margaret Thatcher must be talking to us when she said: “Look at a day when you are supremely satisfied at the end. Its not a day when you lounge around doing nothing; its a day youve had everything to do and youve done it.” And that reminds me, when it moves, it is mechanical! To be contd....
