NIRMAL VIDYALAYA SAPTAHA-2014 : GUIDELINES OVERVIEW OF THE DRIVE 7 th July 2014: Launching of the Campaign The campaign will be launched on 16 th June through district, sub-district and panchayats and school level events. The districts may consider organizing the following activities to launch the campaign with visibility: • Flagging off the campaign by Sabhadhipati, District Magistrate, Chairperson DPSC etc. at district level; by Sabhapati, BDO etc. at block levels and by Pradhan of Gram Panchayat, School Inspector etc. at Gram Panchayat levels • Organising Media Briefing at district level hoisted by Sabhadhipati and District Magistrate • Organising rally of school children at district/block/GP headquarters with banners and placards on WASH messages. The Sabhadhipaties, Disrtrict Magistrates, Chairperson-DPSCs, Sabhapaties, BDOs etc. may kindly consider to take part in it and encourage the children to bring it forward The following activities may be taken up at school level: • Mass Singing of Sanitation Song (Swasthyabidhan Gaan) during the Morning Assembly • Discussion on the importance and day specific events of Nirmal Vidyalaya Saptaha • Reconstitution of Child Cabinet in presence of MTA/parents • Special classroom transaction on WASH. Theme: Safe drinking water and its importance • Demonstration of Five Steps of Hand washing and organize Mass Hand Washing before MidDay Meal • Rally/Street Drama in the neighborhood community after theMid-Day Meal 8th & 9th July 2014: Social Responsibility Days NVA appreciates the special role of the school in the community and the responsibilities it has towards society. Special weightage (marks) is being given for promotion of innovations in this area while evaluating schools for awards. The following is the suggested list of activities to be carried out by the school: • Discussion on the importance of social responsibility ofa school and the role of children • Special classroom transaction on WASH. Theme: Importance of adequate sanitation in improving the quality of life • Demonstration of Five Steps of Hand washing and organizing Mass Hand Washing before Mid-Day Meal • Household Survey to assess the following: Out of school child and the reasons behind it Toilet less family and the reasons of not having Open defecator and the reasons Open defecation sites Source of drinking water • Identification of open defecation sites • Plantation of trees in open defecation sites/waste lands/road sides supported by the Gram Panchayats • Preparation of Social Map with the above indicators • Motivating families and community to send each and every child to school on regular basis. • They should also pledge to make their village toilet/open defecation free as well as to adopt good hand washing practices before and after certain events. 10 th July 2014: Activity Based Learning Day Nirmal Vidyalaya Abhiyan emphasizes on learning through activity, exploration and discovery. Through the sharing of knowledge, its application and replication, positive changes in the mindset can be brought about which will result in the adoption of good practices. The following activities may be taken up: • Mass Singing of Sanitation Song (Swasthyabidhan Gaan) during the Morning Assembly • Demonstration of Five Steps of Hand washing and organizing Mass Hand Washing before Mid-Day Meal • Sanitary Survey of the drinking water source • Organizing transactions between the school and community to assess the following indicators: Waste disposal practice and its recurrent threats Sanitary Condition of drinking water sources of the neighborhood community Personnel from the local sanitary mart or the water testing laboratory can be invited as resource persons to spread awareness about the issue as well ashelp with the assessment. 11th July 2014: Leadership Development Day Nirmal Vidyalaya Abhiyan supports the personality development of children through providing opportunities for participation and building leadership skills. Nirmal Vidyalaya Saptaha provides children to become advocates for change. The following activities may be taken up to meet the objectives: • Mass Singing of Sanitation Song (Swasthyabidhan Gaan) during the Morning Assembly • Open Session led by the child cabinet to finalise the issues/program for advocacy with the Gram Panchayat • Demonstration of Five Steps of Hand washing and organizing Mass Hand Washing before Mid-Day Meal • Interface with Gram Panchayat: The Pradhan will convene a meeting of child cabinets to take stock of the situation for filling gaps. Two Ministers escorted by the Head Teacher will participate in the meeting. The points of discussions mayinclude: Waste disposal practice and its possible solution in school and community Safety: Home to school safe passage, safety measures in high risk zone including risk reduction, WASH improvement in school, Water testing of school source and mitigation of contamination if any Improving the sanitary condition of school and community sources, Developing and promoting social norm for stopping open defecation and Submitting demands of household toilet generated during the drive and plan for its supply 12th July 2014: Art and Aesthetics Appreciation Day NVA encourages children to appreciate and encourage the arts and aesthetics. Sit & Draw Competitions have been held during the Nirmal Vidyalaya Saptaha under the NVA since 2012 and this year too will be no different. The Sit & Draw Competition will be organized from 11:30 AM to 1:30PM in all schools on the themes given and as per process described in Annexure-2. SIT & DRAW COMPETITION Sit & Draw Competition on thematic issues related to the immediate environment of a child is one of the important activities of Nirmal Vidyalaya Saptaha. The objective is give opportunity to all children to express their perceptions about their experiences and their environment. PROCESS • Students of all Government/non Govt. Aided Primary and Upper Primary and High Schools including SSKs, MSKs, NCLPs and Schools of Minority Affairs Department/Kolkata Municipal Corporation are eligible to participate in the competition. • The competition will be held between 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM on 12 July 2014 as part of Nirmal Vidyalaya Saptaha and teachers will encourage all students to participate. • The entries will be evaluated first at the school leveland thereafter at the circle, district and State levels. The three best entries of each group of a district will be awarded with District Prizes and these will be sent for selection atthe State level. • The primary evaluation will be done by a committee represented by the Head Teacher/Teacher-In-Charge (Chairperson), one Assistant Teacher designated by the Head Teacher and the concerned Siksha Bandhu/Special Educator as designated by the CPC • The Head Teacher will submit the best entry of each group to the Circle Project Coordinator (CPC) on or before 20 July 2014 • The Head Teacher will ensure that paintings of all children are displayed in an organised manner on the wall of the concerned classes • The Circle level Evaluation will be done by a committee with the CPC (Chairperson), one expert (artist) of the area and two Siksha Bandhus as designated by the DPO, SSM • The Circle level Committee will select the best painting of each group and submit it to the DPO, SSM on or before 15 August 2014 THEMES GROUP CLASS THEME A I & II NIJEKE RAKHI PARICHANNA (I KEEP MYSELF CLEAN) B III & IV AMAR NIRMAL GRAM (MY “NIRMAL” VILLAGE) C V, VI, VII PARIBESH-I-JIBAN, SANGRAKHAN-I-BHANISHYAT (ENVIRONMENT IS LIFE, CONSERVATION IS THE FUTURE) D VIII, IX, X AMAR PARIBESHBANDHAB BIDYALAY (MY ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY SCHOOL) PRIZES FIRST PRIZE: Rs. 5000/- at State level; Rs. 1000/-at District level SECOND PRIZE: Rs. 3000/- at State level; Rs. 800/- at District level THIRD PRIZE: Rs. 2000/- at State level; Rs. 500/- at District level
