NISA have produced a new guidance sheet on Judging, The way - TopicsExpress

NISA have produced a new guidance sheet on Judging, The way forward, here is the body of the article from Judy Clinton with a link to the full guide; As part of the on-going initiative “Judging in Great Britain – The Way Forward”, which is set to gradually move British Judging away from the 6-0 system, a pilot of new judging papers for NISA tests commences from June 1st for three months. This pilot will not affect skaters or coaches in their preparation, delivery, test requirements or standards at the various levels. This pilot, and these judging papers offers judges the opportunity to judge within an “IJS” mind-set at NISA test sessions. For GOEs (Grade of Execution), the pass level is Base (0) and moves up through +1, +2, +3 and -1, -2, -3 according to level of competence displayed for the Element or Section of test where a GOE is applied. Levels will be offered for Components – Poor, Weak, Acceptable, Good and Excellent. There are no scores for components at Test Sessions as it would be difficult to sensibly equate a test score against a competitive test score and could cause unnecessary confusion. ORIGINAL AND FREE DANCE – Candidates may perform other elements but only the listed elements will receive GOEs. Additional elements performed should be rewarded with the appropriate component scores. Gold Bar and Gold Star tests – Candidates, Coach or Candidates representative should see the Test Organiser before the session commences to complete the order of elements on a programme content sheet. SINGLES FREE PROGRAMME – Candidates, Coach or Candidates representative should see the Test Organiser before the session commences to complete the order of elements on a programme content sheet. A cross section of judges has been invited to pilot these papers and a list of those judges involved in this pilot will be available from the Test Organisers. This list may be added to from time to time and Test Organisers will be kept fully up to date. Whilst this is being rolled out both styles of test paper will be acceptable and following the end of the trial which is set at September 1st it is hoped that the papers will be rolled out to all over the following weeks. Skaters will receive their comment sheets in the usual way but the base of these comment sheets will clearly show the criteria for Pass or Retry and skaters and coaches will therefore be clear as to which papers have been used. Once again it should be noted there is no change at all in the standard required at each level. Please find together with this communication, sample papers for your information. This Pilot Scheme is a stepping stone which will bring British judging closer to moving away from the 6-0 system and see Great Britain falling more into line with many other ISU members around the world. iceskating.org.uk/node/6178
