NLD to hold year-long celebration for 100th birthday of General Aung San General Aung San’s 100th birthday fall on February 13, 2015. The National League for Democracy (NLD) plans to hold monthly celebrations in honor of the centennial throughout the year. Nyi Pu, a member of Central Executive Committee of the NLD said, “We want people to miss the General the whole year round. We have instructed every city and town to hold monthly events. Each city and town should host as many as they can. For example, some townships have statues or remembrance stones dedicated to the General. They should hold poem reading events or literary talks about him at such places.” Residents of Natmauk, the General’s hometown, will hold celebrations from February 7 to 13. Aung San Suu Kyi has been invited to that event. The February 13 is regarded as Children’s Day in Myanmar.
