NO PERSON SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA SHOULD FACE DISCRIMINATION: PLANS TO RAISE DEMENTIA AWARENESS IN DEVON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2014 Volunteering in Health has affiliated with the Purple Angel Organisation, whose aim is to increase awareness and knowledge of dementia. Purple Angel was created by Norms McNamara, who was diagnosed with dementia in his early 50s. After experiencing discrimination himself Norms vowed that no person suffering from dementia should be treated like he had been and set about raising awareness. Purple Angel is now a global organisation. Volunteering in Health staff and volunteers will gain a better understanding of dementia and to promote awareness across Teignbridge and beyond. Michelle Willocks-Watts, manager of Volunteering in Health said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to be working with Norms McNamara and the Purple Angel organisation to increase awareness of Dementia. “We are also pleased to announce that the Java Coffee House in Teignmouth has signed up to Purple Angel and we will be working with other business owners in the coming weeks and months. “Our Dementia Bridge Worker, Helen Skuse will be available in the Java Coffee House on Thursday mornings between 9am and 10.30am to provide informal support and information especially to those who have been diagnosed with early onset dementia.” Volunteering in Health will be holding a dementia awareness event in partnership with Purple Angel on Saturday, November 15 2014, which Purple Angel are now calling a day of action for all Purple Angel ambassadors to join in around the world.
