NO TITS IN THE SUN...NO GUTS IN THE HOME OFFICE More than 300 foreign criminals escaped deportation last year after they argued it would breach their human rights. By Alice Philipson 8:02AM BST 02 Sep 2013 The number of offenders citing the European Convention on Human Rights in order to stay in Britain has almost doubled since the previous year, according to Home Office figures. The release of the statistics comes six months after Home Secretary Theresa May announced plans to stop foreign criminals using the loophole to avoid deportation. The figures show 299 foreign national offenders won appeals citing Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights — right to a family life. Over the previous 12 months, 177 succeeded, according to The Sun (£). Those allowed to remain in Britain include a violent Bosnian criminal who was last week granted permission to stay despite a string of vicious assaults. Sanel Sahbaz beat one victim with a chair leg during an argument in the street, breaking the man’s arm. In another incident he stamped on his landlord’s head until he became unconscious and then kicked him in the face.
