NOAA Lowers Numbers. While tropical activity is going nuts in the - TopicsExpress

NOAA Lowers Numbers. While tropical activity is going nuts in the Pacific (4 Hurricanes/Typhoons), the Atlantic, Caribbean & Gulf are totally quiet. Dr. Grays team lowered their Hurricane Forecast Numbers on August 1st & Today NOAA followed suit. They now are calling for 7-12 named storms, & since we already have 2, that means they believe well have another 5-10 more storms. Thats quite a spread isnt it? Like me saying tomorrows high will be between 80 & 90 degrees. Whatever, none of the computer models are calling for development during the next 10-14 days. as another East Coast trough develops. IF we are going to get a threat this summer, I think it will come from a frontal boundary that pushes down into the Gulf & a spin up forms along it. The environment out in the Atlantic still has the dry air/African Dust & it will be a challenge for any system to survive that. Well see as we approach the historic peak (Sept. 10th) of the season. Stay tuned! In the short term, no major changes are expected until next week with daily rain coverage staying below average (20-30%) thru the weekend & temperatures August hot (93-97). Bob Breck
